In a recent impulse, I bought a coconut. I was persuaded by my son who has eyed them with fascination consistently in the produce aisle. For no other reason than to satisfy his curiosity, it came home with us. I had thousands of ideas and yet not one informed clue about what to do with it. I researched the basics and tonight, we took a tropical culinary adventure. We drained the water, and then to my son’s boyish delight, we literally pounded this little gem with work tools.  We were mesmerized as we shook the water from the coconut’s crying eyes.  As we hacked out the flesh, we tasted and smelled our way through the process, and our brains flittered. Tomorrow we will make milky nectar and decide together what to create from our labor. Tonight, we made a memory.
