At the 2018 IACP Conference in New York, Food Network star and registered dietician Ellie Krieger shared what healthy is today and the latest nutrition trends. Key takeaways include that there is an ongoing celebration of vegetables. Never before has the vegetable had such momentum in American eating and we should embrace this trend. She also shared that while high protein foods have become desirable as people emulate the nutritional practices of elite athletes, product marketers have gone a bit overboard adding protein powders to nearly everything. When choosing healthy products, protein powder doesn’t necessarily equate to healthy. Ellie Krieger also indicated that “lifestyling” has done away with diets. Although cleanses can be considered modern day diets, a focus towards healthy eating habits everyday is becoming more of the norm. Lastly, she remarked on the growing quest for knowledge about where our food comes from and the benefit of transparency.
– CELEBRATE VEGETABLES: MORE AND MORE THEY ARE TAKING CENTER STAGE. PLANT BASED FATS SURPASS OTHERS.
– PROTEIN POWDERS DON’T NECESSARILY MAKE SOMETHING MORE HEALTHY.
– DIETING IS OUT.
– LEARN WHERE YOUR FOOD IS COMING FROM.
